Tomorrow finds us off the grid for Day 50 in Key West, and on the hook. And it has been great! With the Christmas holidays upon us, we are often asked do we miss the dock? Do we regret the move? Are you bored?
We miss the friends we left tied to the docks back in St Pete. But a sail boat is mean to live on the winds and waves, not tied like a dock queen. Was it easier on the dock? Yes but, different. Regret? No. And bored? I wish.
So many small projects that were left pending because life gets in the way. Work and life were always fighting to compete for my time. And as everyone knows there are no 5 min projects but take away the hustle and bustle and throw in Keys Time and we are making headway like never before.
Bigger expenses are few, inverter was a unseen failure so replaced with one with a longer warranty. And we opted to place it on a separate dedicated circuit not connected to anything existing. Orange plugs indicate inverter outlets, and can be operated without generator issues or shore power interactions.
Dinghy outboard has been another headache. Parts for the older Tohastu has been a pain. One suggestion i can make is newer, reliable outboard.
And yes there are Christmas lights on the boat. Multi colors around the cockpit. And yes 12 volt. Some things will never change.
Well, I for one are happy that you guys are finally enjoying your sailboat, key word “sail”. You are missed, but some of only wish we could do the same. Have a wonderful Holiday Season and visit soon.
