After a 9 hour motorsail down from Dotham cut, near Black point settlement, we are currently enjoying the beautiful town of Georgetown located in Great Exuma Island. This is the Key West of the Bahamas for boaters. Beautiful water, pristine beaches and great views. This is the hangout for cruisers most of the winter season. As we are nearing the end of the season here, where there was 300 boats last month now maybe 75.
The majority of cruising boats anchor along Stocking Island, with a fairly short dinghy ride into town. You have the choice of more than a dozen beaches to visit on the west side, as well breath taking scenery on the east side.
Daily beach volleyball, bonfires on the beach, potluck meetings, hikes and trails abound, always something going on.
Little bit of information on the shops here.
Exuma Market: Great food store. Well stocked, decent prices. Right at the dinghy docks.
Blu on the bay: Local bar and restaurant, has wifi. Just 200 ft from dinghy dock.
Chat n Chill: Great beach bar and grill on anchorage side of Stocking Island, by volleyball beach.
424 Prime Spirits: Lowest cost bahamian rum in Georgetown.
There are dozens of others here that we will take many trips to hit them all. We are planning to be here til next weekend, so look for updates to follow…
