As we leave Georgetown working our way slowly north thru the Exumas, our next stop was Little Farmers and passage of Cave Cut. Cave cut is the first connection for travel from the outside to the inside banks of the Exumas for most monohull sailboats. There are other passages south of this if your on a catamarans or places to duck in then back out only.
Cave cut is a deep water channel, with a heavy current in all but slack tides and slow winds. We reached it in mid day still 2 plus hours from slack and had 4+ knots of current flowing out as we entered with around 5-6 ft chopped waves apposing the current. As most cuts in the bahamas timing is important so we were close but would have been better waiting. A true Mr Toads Wild Ride. This was still better than Galleitt Cut to the North as that one was worst.
Upon passing thru the cut we motored around Little Farmers to an anchorage north called Oven Rock. At mean low tide this area runs around 7 ft deep in a lot of places for several miles. We anchored around 100 yds from shore in crystal clear water.
This is about a 10 min dinghy ride into Farmers where we stopped at Ty’s sunset bar with a beautiful view of every sunset.
