Well, time has arrived to where we needed to be headed back to the states. Its hard to believe that we had spent three months in the Bahamas. We played, hiked, swim, snorkeled, sailed and generally raised hell as sailors can do. So, with the weather starting to turn sour, and concerns over forecasted storms next week, we moved from Exuma land and sea park(Wardrick), to Highbourne Cay as a staging area. Highbourne has a very good restaurant called Xuma. So as daybreak rose, we prepped the two boats that were heading back, tied dinghys down tight, and shoved off for a mega run to the states.
We left Highbourne at 9am, ran up and around Nassau, past the NW channel, out past S Riding Rock into the Straights of Florida, across the Gulf Stream into Biscayne Bay with Anchor down at 700pm. 34 hrs and some 230 miles later. We are back in the states before the weather closed in making the trip across the gulf stream impassable.
Following pulling into Key Biscayne, and the first cell/internet access in nearly a week, we get this report from the National Hurricane Center of Disturbance #1, on the 13th of May in the lower Gulf of Mexico. Forecast possibility of increasing. Crazy weather indeed! So as we rest tonight and see what tomorrow brings, we plan the next three stops on our way to Key West.
Follow our adventures, as we wander the many islands of the Florida keys on our way back home under rainy skies.
