O’Briens, oh what a night!

We left Big Majors for O’Briens, inside Exuma Land and SeaPark Sunday after a rousing Cinco da Mayo Saturday night. An easy couple hour sail. Light winds made for an lazy day, and passage to the anchorage wasn’t extremely hard other than one small area passing by this large rock. Got to the listed spot to anchor found moderate tides, and initial spot proved bad, way too deep to anchor with enough scope. Moved and re-anchored in around 9ft of water. Settled in for dinner and relaxing. Started seeing lightning flashes in distance, and by 11pm full blown gale force gusts. Winds clocked around 160 degrees, and while our anchor held, our buddy boat broke free and was dragging onto the shallows. During 35-50 kts winds, they had to pull anchor and re-anchor, while we ran engine for nearly 4 hrs watching swing patterns on plotter. It wasnt til after 4am that things quieted down,

So without a doubt, pulled anchor in am and moved to wardrick park and grabbed a mooring ball for a few days. What a night. Other than some missing paint on our friends boat, no serious damage, but way too close for all. 140 ft from max anchor to rocks is not good.

So we will stay here til we move further north to press on to florida in next few days.
